Dear colleagues and friends

We are happy to announce that the 30th European Dendroecological Fieldweek www.wsl.ch/dendrofieldweek will take place from September 1-8, 2018, in in the scenic region of the Krkonoše National Park, Czech Republic (also known as the Giant Mountains), right in advance of the Eurodendro 2019 http://eurodendro2019.mendelu.cz/.

This years' fieldweek is organized in close collaboration between the Federal Research Institute WSL, Birmensdorf, Switzerland; Kerstin Treydte, the University of Prague, Vaclav Treml and Jan Tumaier, the Botanical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Třeboň, Jan Altman, the University of Padua/Italy, Alan Crivellaro, and The University of Silesia/Poland, Ryszard Kaczka.

Scope
The fieldweek is particularly open for young researchers (beginners, Master and PhD students, Postdocs) but also for advanced scientists from Europe and worldwide from all fields of tree ring research. We will cover the full spectrum of dendrochronological issues, including dendroclimatology, dendroecology, dendrogeomorphology, dendroarcheology and wood anatomy, and foster cross-disciplinary links. Each topic will include keynote lectures, fieldwork and data production/analysis in small groups, supervised by an advanced scientist. Participants will learn methods of field sampling, sample preparation, visual and statistical cross-dating, data production of tree-ring widths, blue reflectance, stable isotopes, cell size parameters, image analysis, statistical data analysis, and presentation. Participants and advanced scientists will spend the whole week together, and there will be ample opportunity to learn, discuss and make new friends from all around the world.

Registration
The registration fee is 450 Euro including accommodation, meals and fieldweek material.
Please register by following the instructions on the webpage. Registration is open until June 30.

The Fieldweek is a course of the Oeschger Centre of the University Bern, and therefore we can provide successful participants with a certificate of 2.5 ECTS points (ECTS: European Credit Transfer System, 1 ECTS credit equals approx. 25-30 hours of work) which can be handed in at your home University.
The event is also supported by the Association of Tree Ring ResearcATR (http://www.tree-ring.org/) that provides a limited number of travel grants https://tree-ring.org/support-and-awards/atr-support/, Regent Instruments, Rinntech, Sercon and Walesch.

Please feel free to forward this information to anyone you think might be interested.

We are looking forward to meeting many of you in Czech Republic!
