Dear colleagues,

an International Mountain Conference
(https://www.uibk.ac.at/congress/imc2019) will be held in Innsbruck from
08-12 September 2019, building upon previous mountain conferences that took
place in Perth (Scotland).

The conference will host a number of workshop sessions concerning the
mountain research in different aspects
(https://www.uibk.ac.at/congress/imc2019/program/).

The conference will use innovative workshop-based formats to promote deeper
discussion and knowledge exchange than standard conference formats offer, and
we hope to not only establish a current state of the art knowledge, but also
identify key future research needs and foster ongoing collaborative research
through this approach. This is a timely opportunity, and suitable setting, to
develop valuable review papers and identify remaining gaps in the forthcoming
IPCC AR6 Cross-Chapter-Paper on Mountains.

Abstract submission is open until 14 February 2019. Note the conference
format relies on you bringing your overall expertise to the workshop topic,
and in this sense your abstract can be a non-traditional summary of your
relevant knowledge and expertise, including details of topics you think are
key concerns to be discussed. In addition to an active participation in a
workshop, the presentation of posters only is possible too
(https://www.uibk.ac.at/congress/imc2019/application).

Finally, please pass this on to colleagues with expertise in the mountain
cryopshere, particularly from commonly under-represented regions of the
world, and we welcome your thoughts on key issues that should be covered in
such a session even if you are not able to attend.

Hope to see you in Innsbruck later this year!

Kurt Nicolussi
