Dear colleagues and friends,

We would like to inform you that the 12th International Congress on Ecology (INTECOL) will be held in Beijing during Aug. 21-25, 2017 (http://www.intecol2017.org/en/index.asp). This congress will include a session on “Historical ecology and climate change”  (Theme 11-2). Welcome to present a talk on this session (Abstract submission is still open on the webpage).

Theme 11-2: Historical ecology and climate change

Historical ecology and climate change is a trans-disciplinary research field that can be applied in paleobiology, paleoclimatology, conservation ecology and archeology etc. Climate change affects ecological processes and spatial patterns of species diversity and ecosystem functions. These temporal phenomena are fundamental to ecology. Knowledge of historical ecology is important for prediction of the impact of future global change on the structure and functions of ecosystems. This session addresses historical perspectives of ecological processes and climate change. We will look for scientific presentations from a diverse aspects of paleoecology including but not limited to studies of tree rings, pollen, plant macroremains, animal bones, and archival written records.

Session organizers:

Qi-Bin Zhang (qbzhang AT ibcas.ac.cn), Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Paolo Cherubini (paolo.cherubini AT wsl.ch), WSL Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research
